I am an assistant professor of Educational Technology in the Department of Teacher Education, University of Texas at El Paso. I earned my doctorate in School of Education, University of Michigan in 2007, specializing in Learning Technologies. I then worked for four years as a Research Associate in the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) professional development project for K-12 science teachers, hosted by Division of Science and Math Education and Department of Teacher Education at Michigan State University. I have a broad research interest in improving k-12 education and teacher education through innovative technologies and approaches. In particular, I have conducted research on discourse patterns in teacher learning communities, collaborative teacher research models and case studies, science teachers' needs for professional development, problem-based learning for students and teachers, and effectiveness of technology-supported learning environments. I thoroughly enjoy research and writing. Inspired by my research on developing teachers as reflective practitioners, I aim to become a reflective writer myself who is mindful about her own research and writing practice. I have published in various peer-reviewed journals, including Journal of the Learning Sciences, Computers and Education, Journal of Computer Assisted Learning, Teaching and Teacher Education, Journal of Science Education and Technology, Journal of Science Teacher Education, and Educational Psychologist. |

When I am not working, I love to be with my son, a cute, smart, handsome, energetic, most-times-very-sweet-occasionally-driving-me-crazy four-year old boy (his own self-description is just a cute boy though). He is a super fan of super heroes and loves to dress up as Spider Man, Bat Man, and Iron Man!
